Hanoi needs 18 trillion VND to prevent flooding
QĐND - Thursday, December 18, 2008, 22:23 (GMT+7)
The capital city of Hanoi needs between 13-18 trillion VND (765-1,060 million USD) from now to 2020 to upgrade and build water drainage systems in order to protect it from flooding.
The figure was released at a conference jointly held by the National Institute for Irrigation Planning (NIIP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi on December 17.
According to the NIIP, to avoid floods after heavy rains, Hanoi has to build new large-scale pumping stations besides upgrading existing ones and dredging river systems.
Hanoi experienced the worst flood from two-dace record rains in early November when almost all its streets were submerged in water, causing big losses in human and property.
