Vietnam, RoK join forces to protect the environment

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have increased their cooperation in environmental protection measures, according to a Vietnamese environmental official.
Deputy Director of the General Department of Environmental Protection, Bui Cach Tuyen made this statement during a seminar on Vietnam-RoK cooperation in environmental protection in Ho Chi Minh City on December 17.
According to Tuyen, the RoK Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (IEST) will work alongside a number of industrial groups, such as Hyundai, Kumho and Sudokwon to implement a number of environmental projects across several southern provinces.
They include a project to build a waste water treatment system in Long An province during 2009-2012, a project on solid waste management and treatment in Dong Nai province, a 1,760ha waste treatment complex in Ho Chi Minh City and a project to upgrade water resources on the Saigon River .
Speaking at the seminar, an IEST representative praised Vietnam ’s recent environmental protection efforts. He said that the RoK, with its expertise in solid waste treatment and recycling, will help Vietnam to implement environmental projects in urban areas and address environmental pollution issues in trade villages and industrial parks.
