QĐND - Sunday, January 15, 2012, 21:26 (GMT+7)
Thousands of overseas Vietnamese gathered in Ubon Ratchathani province, Thailand, on January 14 to welcome the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).
Present at the event were Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang, representatives from overseas Vietnamese organizations and associations, and diplomats of the two countries.
Thang said that despite the negative impact of the global economic downturn, the overseas Vietnamese community in Thailand has built stable lives and integrated well into their resident country. They have preserved and upheld traditional cultural values and a patriotic spirit, he said.
The Ambassador called on expatriates in Thailand to make contributions and continue pouring investment into their home country.
On the occasion, Vietnamese nationals in Ubon Ratchathani province introduced a giant Chung cake (a traditional square cake of sticky rice, green bean and pork) weighed more than 500kg to mark the Year of Dragon and serve visitors.
